SLUICE
a monthly radio residency with Laenz
A monthly show on The Lot Radio, co-hosted with Laenz.
Knotty sludgy dubby obscure excursions in dance music since 2021.
Often experimental and live.
A sluice is a floodgate; "an artificial channel for conducting water."
Sluice is a platform for mostly NYC-based artists working at the fringes of their musical practice, loosely connected across a spectrum of experimental electronic and DIY-ethos music culture in NYC and beyond. Dub, noise, techno, folk, modern classical, field recordings, radio waves themselves, are often the genres and sonic material explored (including but not limited to).
Our focus is on process-orientation rather than a highlighting a specific genre of dance music. This makes finding connections a bit more challenging, but more rewarding. We tend to seek out artists who are intentionally and creatively engaged with the "how" of their music and sound practice, and have some thoughts about how to approach it differently or "experimentally". Process over perfection.
The result is often chaotic, sometimes a trainwreck, but usually listenable

The Lot Radio
The Lot Radio is a beloved Internet radio station operating and streaming from a shipping container in Brooklyn. It is one of the earlier examples of a form (livestreamed DJ sets), that has become quite a popular format across the world. The space itself is still just a gravel lot sandwiched between a church and a climbing gym. As with many vistas in New York City, the view from the DJ booth has changed quite a bit over the years - no longer can one see the sunset or , and the visitors fashion skews more polos and slacks than slacker rock shirts. Still, I am immensely grateful to have such a place to share music once a month, and to Francois, Sasha, Zander, and the whole crew who work so hard to keep it running.
