Introduction to New Media
a foundational new media course at LaGuardia Community College

HUW 112 introduces students to new media technology: forms of communication and expression made with computers. It is both a lecture and a studio class, and the foundational course for the New Media Technology major at LaGuardia.
Students practice the basic modes of digital media — laying out text, making and manipulating images, video and animation, and coding a website by hand in HTML and CSS — and build an online portfolio of their work. Just as important is learning to explain why you'd reach for a particular digital tool, and working out which media you want to keep making with.
