HUW 161 covers the fundamental principles of web design, focusing on user experience and visual design for websites and mobile applications. Topics include typography, visual and graphic design, layout and responsive design, motion and interaction design, and accessibility.
The course starts with research. Students examine how websites are put together, try out techniques for interacting with computers, and design an interface for a project of their choosing using professional design tools. By the end they can set type that is readable and expressive, apply color, composition, and hierarchy, prototype motion and interaction, and evaluate and fix a design for accessibility.
